Will U-M extend the application deadline if a natural disaster (including health), a strike, or warfare has occurred?
We are unable to extend the application deadline. However, an applicant who was prevented from submitting their application materials by the deadline due to a natural disaster (including health), a strike, or warfare, will receive full consideration once their materials arrive.
Early Action Applicants:
If you were not able to submit your application by the Nov. 1 deadline, we would encourage you to submit your application under the Regular Decision notification plan as soon as possible and send an explanation to ecredentials@umich.edu explaining the circumstances that prevented your submission. Additional supporting materials can be submitted as an attachment with your explanation or sent through the Common Application.
We cannot guarantee that the applicants who are granted an Early Action exception will have a decision by late January. Instead these applicants' decisions will be dependent upon the timing of our receipt of all of their required application materials.
Regular Decision Applicants:
We are unable to extend the application deadline. However, an applicant who was prevented from submitting their application materials by the deadline due to natural disaster (including health), strike, or warfare, can request an exception to the deadline and, if granted, will receive consideration on a space available basis once their materials arrive.
We encourage students and/or their school counselors to explain the reason for the application material delay and send this explanation to ecredentials@umich.edu. Additional materials can be submitted with the exception request or submitted through the Common Application .
For those who are granted an exception, the timeline for decision release will be dependent upon the timing of our receipt of all of their required application materials.
