Requirements for Home-School and Unaccredited High School Applicants

How is the admissions process different for home-schooled applicants and/or applicants attending an unaccredited high school?

Home-schooled applicants or applicants attending an unaccredited high school will follow the same application process as those applicants who are traditionally schooled. However, in addition to their transcript, we strongly recommend the submission of an SAT or an ACT test result. On a case-by-case basis our office may also require home-schooled applicants and applicants attending an unaccredited high school to submit AP exam scores or grades from an accredited secondary or post-secondary institution in the academic subjects required for admission. This is true even if an applicant is home-schooled through an accredited virtual (online) high school program.

Parents of home-schooled applicants can submit documents as the teacher and school official who completes the required teacher recommendation and the school report if the applicant is not affiliated with a school district or with a formalized program of instruction. We encourage all home-schooled applicants who have interacted with an instructor outside of the family to use this individual to complete the teacher recommendation whenever possible.

We also encourage home-schooled applicants and applicants attending an unaccredited school to apply early and to contact our office early in their senior year to determine if any additional supplemental application materials will need to be submitted.

Additional information for home-schooled applicants is listed below by school or college.
