Pre-Evaluation of Transferable Credits

How can I find out which classes will transfer to U-M for credit?

Prospective Students

Many courses have already been evaluated for transfer into the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA), and you may view this information on the Transfer Credit Equivalency Search for U.S. institutions and international institutions. Additionally, the LSA Transfer Guides for Michigan community colleges are available on the LSA website.

Due to the volume of applications we receive and review and the number of requests that we receive from prospective students, a pre-evaluation of other transfer courses for non-U-M students is not a service that we are able to provide.

For basic information on receiving transfer credit, please visit our Transfer Credit webpage, as well as the LSA website.

Additionally, students transferring in from a Michigan Community College may want to follow the guidelines established in the Michigan Transfer Agreement.

Current U-M Students

Enrolled University of Michigan students who wish to take courses outside of the university that are required for degree or graduation requirements are strongly encouraged to select courses from our transfer equivalency database that have already been evaluated and determined to be eligible for course equivalent transfer credit. To check course transferability use:

If you are an enrolled student and have a need to take a class outside of the University that is not listed in the transfer equivalency database you may submit a Transfer Credit Equivalency Form to have the out-of-resident courses pre-evaluated for credit. You should expect that it can take up to six weeks from the date of submission to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to receive the evaluation requested. Therefore, students are encouraged to plan accordingly and should submit this form and the required course catalog descriptions at least six weeks prior to the start of the term in which they hope to enroll in the coursework.
