What is a U-M uniqname and how do I get one?
Your uniqname is your U-M user name. Uniqnames are available to all U-M students, newly matriculated students, alumni, faculty, and staff. It is used for logging in to U-M websites, online services, systems, and more. We also build your U-M email address from your uniqname. Your U-M email address will be in this format: uniqname@umich.edu. You should regularly check your umich.edu email account for important messages from Housing, Financial Aid, the Office of New Student Programs, your school or college, and more.
Newly admitted students who have paid their enrollment deposit or had it waived will receive an email from ITS (Information and Technology Services) inviting them to visit the Uniqname & Account Setup website where the uniqname creation process can be completed online. Admitted students (and less frequently applicants) to UM-Dearborn or UM-Flint may already have a uniqname; these students will reactivate their existing uniqname during the setup process rather than creating a new one.
