Canvas does not allow you to attach a rubric directly to an assignment that is set as an External Tool submission type. However, there is a workaround to allow the use of a rubric to grade.
- Create an assignment.
- Set the Submission Type to File Uploads.
- Set the remainder of the assignment details as desired.
- Save the assignment.
- Click the assignment link and go to Edit.
- Change the Submission Type to External Tool.
- Select the tool you would like to use and follow the prompts to finish linking the tool to the assignment.
- Save and Publish the assignment.
The rubric will not be visible on the assignment itself, but it will appear in the Speedgrader where it can be used for grading.
