Create a Sandbox / Development Course

Start a New Course

You can quickly create an empty course shell (often used as a sandbox for building content or testing) directly from your Dashboard.

1. Log into Canvas.
2. On the right side of the screen, locate and click the Start a New Course button. You may need to scroll down to find it, as it sits below your "To Do" and "Coming Up" lists.
3. A "Start a New Course" window will appear. Enter your desired Course Name in the provided text field.
4. Click the Create course button.
5. Your new course shell is now created. You will be taken directly to the new course where you can begin building or importing content.
