Individual Students Cannot View Grade Comments in a Canvas Group Assignment

Issue

A group assignment where not all students are members of groups, but are submitting the assignment.

Students who are not group members in a group assignment submit the assignment as an individual. While the student can see their grade when it is released, they cannot see the grade comments entered by the instructor or TA.  

Resolution

The instructor must resolve this issue in the assignment settings.

• As a last step before releasing grades and after all group submissions are graded, edit the assignment settings and check the "Assign Grades to Each Student Individually" check box (don't forget to Save) so that the individual students who aren't group members can see the comments.
• DO NOT check this setting until after the group submissions are graded or you may end up grading the group submissions individually.
